The Cannabis plant goes by many names but most people know it as marijuana or weed. There is a long line of slang words for the plant stretching back for decades, as well as specific strain names for weed that have been developed in recent years for high quality marijuana. Slang terms tend to represent marijuana in general where as strain names represent specific types of marijuana. With so much diversity out there it can be difficult knowing which is which and what exactly people are talking about. Marijuana culture and language is always evolving, so it's important to stay on top of the latest trends if you don't want to get left behind.

Cannabis slang tends to refer to marijuana in a general way. Popular street names for marijuana include weed, pot, Mary Jane, greens, herb, skunk, ganja, and many more. Most of these are obvious, but if people are trying to conceal things anything that is green can be a potential slang term for marijuana. The growers of today take pride in their cannabis strains and give each one of them a unique name. There are now hundreds of different names for weed that refer to specific kinds of marijuana. Some of the most popular strains include Haze, Northern Lights, Afghan, Blueberry, AK 47, Diesel, Kush, Cheese, and White Widow. There can be several variations on a popular strain of marijuana, with names like Purple Haze, Silver Haze, Master Kush, Blueberry Kush, Afghani Kush, Head Cheese, Blue Diesel, Sour Diesel. and Green Cheese. New strains on the marijuana scene have names like Light of Jah, Easy Rider, Blueberry Bud, Champagne, Caramelicous, Strawberry Ice, and Crystal Rain. If you know the name of your weed you can easily identify it as an indica or sativa, and immediately know its specific herbal qualities. The days of all weed being created equal are long gone. Marijuana cultivation has become a highly advanced scientific process that can guarantee the outcome of every harvest.

There is an endless language of slang when it comes to the marijuana world. This began with its legal status and the need for discretion, and has evolved into a unique language for marijuana culture. There are new names for weed being created every day, and this will continue for both the slang terms and the unique strains.
