Rolling a joint can be considered a pointless talent in some circles. In the stoner community we have a very different outlook; we love people that can roll a great joint!

To roll a joint all you need is some marijuana and some rolling papers. There are other resources that can also come into play, such as a grinder or roller, however they are not necessary to get the job done.

There are many different ways to roll a joint and each person finds their own way to make it happen best. Here is an easy way to learn to roll your first joint:

Best Way To Roll A Joint:
Start by breaking up your tree (half a gram will work well, but feel free to make it a fatty). This step seems simple but is very important, leaving any stems can tear or puncture your joint making for a less enjoyable smoke. Then take out your rolling paper (I suggest ZigZags) and fill the crease (there will be a fold in the paper or make it yourself down the center) with your choice of weed. The easy part is over, it is time to start the rolling process.
Now that you are ready to do the actual rolling (which can be made easier with a roller or sometimes a dollar bill), pick up the joint and place your thumbs in the center, above the weed (you will use your thumbs to do most of the rolling). Use your thumbs to start rolling (outwards, away from you), you will feel the weed start to tighten up. You may want to do this a few times to really press the weed together, making for a tight joint.

Next you will roll the front side of the paper down so it will only be covering the weed (no overlap with the back side of the paper). You then want to pull the back side over the front (securing the weed inside), you will want to do this slowly to make sure you keep the joint tight (remove excess paper if necessary). Once you have the paper tight all the way around, you will lick the seal of the joint (some papers have an additional seal strip to help you seal the joint, but not all do) or the end of the paper and seal the joint shut.

Now you have the option to add a crutch for your joint. A crutch is usually used to prevent smokers from sucking in weed but can also serves as a filter. I typically use a piece of thick paper (like the box from your joint paper). This step is completely up to the roller, there can be great jointed rolled with and without this step. If your joint is tight, you have done a great job and you are in for a treat! If it is loose go back to the beginning and start again or buy a roller to help keep the joint nice and tight. Loose joints are harsh to smoke, burn fast, and are not recommended by any self-respecting stoner. If you struggle with rolling a joint, don’t give up. Just switch to rolling a blunt, using a cigar, and your job just got much easier. If you are determined watch the video from the link below and you will figure it out!
