The stereotypical image of a weed smoker could not be further from truth. The cannabis users of today come in all shapes and sizes. Very few of them have long scraggly hair and faded tie-dye shirts from the 77' Dead tour. There are still a few of those guys hanging around of coarse, but the majority of marijuana smokers today look just like everybody else. Because of this it can sometimes be tricky identifying who exactly is on your side. But if you know the clues to look for you can quickly learn how to identify weed smokers.

The most obvious give away for a weed user is the smell. Whether you smoke weed or cook it, that dank skunky smell is always going to be an issue. This is fairly easy to cover up but many smokers are too lazy or just don't care. So if you notice that strong smell coming off of someone it's pretty safe to assume they were not just attacked by a skunk. If you don't know the smell just go to any local rock or hip hop concert. That smelly cloud hanging over the audience is not the fog machine. Another obvious way to identify pot smokers is by their red baggy eyes. This can be caused by many other things, but if it's 2 in the afternoon and you look like you just woke up from a week long bender, you're probably high. But this can also be quickly covered up by using some Visine. Because of the continued criminality of pot, many cannabis users always carry cologne and eye drops to cover up these obvious giveaways. But others could care less who know and they can be easily spotted with these obvious signs.

To identify a more low key weed smoker there are several subtle details you can look for. Music is an enormous part of marijuana culture and interest in certain bands is a dead giveaway for a pothead. If you pay attention to the music people are into or even the clothing they wear you can quickly identify a cannabis smoker. It's not as precise as the obvious signs but it's an easy way to feel someone out. If somebody is wearing a Pink Floyd shirt for instance, it's pretty safe to assume they have at one time smoked weed. It just goes with the territory. Some groups and artists that immediately scream pothead include the Grateful Dead, Phish, Sublime, Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Pharcyde, Cypress Hill, 311, and many many more. This is not a foolproof way of identifying a cannabis smoker but it's effective if you have nothing else to go on. If you are a fan of these groups and you don't smoke weed, you are certainly ok with it.

There is not one image for a cannabis user in the weed smoker's guide book. They can be found in every country and economic situation. But if you know the right things to look for you can easily identify any pot smoker.
