Every stoner reaches a point in their smoking careers where they ask the question, "Why don't I grow my own?" It seems like the simplest answer to save a smoker from finding themselves in debt from their habit. growing marijuana can seem like quite the daunting task, but with a little persistence, heat, and water it can definitely be done. The biggest questions that need to be asked are the who, what, when and where before you delve into any personal growing operation. The "who" pertains to what kind of weed are you looking to grow, in this case the most basic types of marijuana classification are "sativa" and "indica". indica is known for its short term, yet powerful high that it induces while sativa has a longer lasting high that does not leave the user as stoned from its effect. Once you figure out what strain of marijuana you'd like to try to grow, it is time to find yourself some seeds to sow. There is no problem with trying to grow a batch of seed that you might have found in your past stash of marijuana, but there are a few things you might want to know about seeds before you spend a lot of time and effort trying to grow them. One of the best things you can do for yourself is make sure to get a hold of feminized seeds. The gender of the plant makes a huge difference in the growing process. There are both male and female plants, for growing marijuana you will want female plants that have an absence of male plants. If the male plants are present during the growing process they will germinate the female plants that will reproduce seeds, you won't want this to happen. Without the male plants the female plants will produce THC heavy buds which is exactly what you'll want to happen.
The "what and where" aspect of this process is how you'd like to go about growing. The two most common scenarios for getting your grow operation in motion. Indoor and outdoor set up's are both very common, but can yield very different results. In terms of growing there are common things that are needed in both scenarios. Sunlight or constant light for 8 hours a day is needed in both to grow a healthy plant along with constant balmy high temperatures from 75 degrees and up. In terms of growing outdoors you have to consider what kind of environment you're putting your plants in.
The "when" is more relevant with growing outdoors. If you live in colder area you need to consider when the last frost will occur before you plant outside. A frost can be a cruel end to the start of your first grow operation. Most plants will go through an outdoor cycle that begins in the spring and flowers in the fall. For indoor growing operations, as long as you have the necessary elements you can grow year round. A hydroponics system allows a way of irrigation to feed your plants in an indoor setting. These plants need a necessary amount of nutrients to grow into healthy plants. These are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, only a small amount is needed to provide the marijuana with what it needs to grow healthy. Be sure to not overfeed your plants, this is a very normal cause for plants to wither and die early.
So remember the "who, what, when, and where" of your growing operation to take into consideration if you would like to try to grow your own.
